** The small solar charger is not keeping my phone charged so no video for Day 4 and this will be the last video for the trip. In camp I have it out in the sun all day, and you can see it on the top of my pack when I am walking. However, because it is not charging fast enough, I am not able to film as much from here on for the remainder of the trip, not enough for a proper video anyway. If there is any demand this Spring, I can try filming more in the Summer 2026. **
In this video, I get an early start to the day and get moving before sunrise. I have quick breakfast including chocolate spread on the bread I baked on Day 3 (see previous video). In case you are wondering about why I blow out the flame after boiling water for coffee; when the gas shut off, the dying flame can cause incomplete combustion of the fuel. This can cause soot to build up inside the stove over time and block the hose. I have never had to clean the stove during a trip, but I always blow out the flame so combustion stops immediately rather than dying out; then I drain the few drops of fuel in the hose as I let the stove cool.
After breakfast, I pack up everything before saying good bye to Clara Lake at 7:45am.
At lunch time I try cold-soaked Chickpea and Spinach Curry. I did not use boiling water, instead I left it soak in cold water for an hour to see how well it rehydrated without heat. This trip was my first time trying to cold soak my food. So, if I ever had trouble with my stove in the future, I know I won’t have trouble eating my dehydrated food. This curry is one of my favorite camping recipes, and I have it at least once every camping trip. If you want to try it out, I found the recipe here:

I complete the hike from Clara to Rainbow Lake at about 1:15pm, which is five and a half hours for the 13.5 km. This includes all the stops along the way. When I get to Rainbow Lake, I assume the first site I find is the one I booked, but it is not. I know the site I booked has a long side trail leading to it, and I could not find that trail on the unmarked site. I head back to the trail and find the correct marker for campsite #1, and immediately recognize the side trail. Rainbow Lake – campsite #1 is getting a little overgrown, but it is still one of the sites I go back to every year.
