Watch out for the Paid Per Letter scam. You've probably seen videos on TikTok and posts on Facebook of people claiming to earn $5 for every handwritten letter they mail out. They'll often show a stack of stamped and addressed envelopes and make claims like they've earned $300 for the 60 letters they mailed out.
This is an outright lie.
They're not getting paid $5/letter.
They're receiving tokens to gamble with at online casinos. If they gamble and win enough money and cash out, somehow with a scammers logic, they make it OK in their minds, to say they're earning $5/letter.
Receiving credit to gamble with after writing letters is essentially casinos' way of fulfilling a no purchase necessary legal obligation.
People have been participating in this for years as a form of entertainment. There are YouTube videos out there explaining how to do this and Facebook groups that help you...for free. The people participating in this know what they are going to do - gamble.
Unlike Paid Per Letter participants who are lied to and deceived from the very first interaction. Participants are initially hooked by the belief they are going to be "earning" money. When in reality they're going to be gambling. Winning a prize at gambling isn't a side hustle or a way to make money. It's gambling.
And then there's the fact that Paid Per Letter is a straight up pyramid scheme. There are no retail sales and people are paid for recruitment. And the real money is in recruitment. $100 a person.
Unsuspecting people ask for more information from one of these posts and many are recruited into the scheme. They buy a "course" for $199 US plus a one time "affiliate" fee of $20 plus a monthly fee of $25. All of which gets funneled up the pyramid scheme.
Ask any Paid Per Letter participant to explain why they lie about getting paid $5/letter or $50-$75 per hour and the answers you hear will astound you.
The mental gymnastics that participants have to undergo in order to avoid facing reality would be laughable if it wasn't so disturbing.
They will say things like it isn't a scam because I got paid.
It isn't a scam because you're a hater.
