I'll take a dive into the differences between Medicare Supplement F and G and hopefully clarify some of the confusion.
Pretty common question - what is the difference and there really isn't a huge difference between the two. Supplement F is the most comprehensive supplement, it covers all of your out of pocket expenses, with no co-pays, no deductibles. Plan F is the most comprehensive supplement that's offered. It pick up picks up the 20% that's not covered by A and B with no out of pocket costs for you, so as long as it's a Medicare approved expense, your supplement will pay 100% of that cost.
Now, versus Plan G. Plan G works the exact same way. With the exception of $183 deductible, which is what it's at currently, it just changes a little bit every year. But it's currently at $183. Once you've met that $183 deductible then Plan G is also going to pay 100% of your medical expenses, the same way as, F is going to.
Between the two, in a lot of cases Plan G will actually work out to be less expensive. When you do the math on it. Meaning plan F has no out of pocket expenses so you're going to pay your monthly premium over the course of the year 12 times, so if you do the cost of Plan F x 12 you'll have your total annual cost for that.
Now if you do versus Plan G. So once again, cost of Plan G x 12 plus that $183 deductible, in a lot of cases plan G can actually work out to be less expensive so when you simply do the math on it, G typically makes more sense, which is also one of the reasons plan F is going to be phased out here in 2020. But for the time being. It's currently offered so that's the differences between F and G.
