Saint Stephen was the first King of Hungary. He was Born in 977 and has died in 1038.
King Saint Stephen's father was prince Géza, mother was princess Sarolt. His wife was Gisella hungarian queen.
His latin name is Sanctus Stephanus and pagan name was Vajk at birth.
The state founding king has always been highly respected in the country.
Coronation has been in 25 December 1000 or 1 January 1001.
He has been spread christianity in the country and encouraged the spread of Christianity by meting out severe punishments for ignoring Christian customs. His canonization has been in 20 August 1038.
In Hungary, his feast day celebrated on 20 August is also a public holiday commemorating the foundation of the state, known as State Foundation Day.
The statue of King Saint Stephen has been standing in 1906 in Buda Castle near the Fisherman's Bastion.
It was made by Alajos Stróbl sculptor artist.
The bronse sculpture is 400 centimeters and the pedestal is 540 centimeters tall.
The reliefs running around the pedestal of the statue and show the most important episodes of Stephen's reign: the coronation, the passing of laws, the spread of the Christian faith.
