There are five types of engines in the second generation of the B-Class. And only one of them uses the belt - it’s the 1.5 diesel engine which is basically the K9K Renault engine that is used in Mercedes vehicles under its own code.
Other engines including the 1.6 and 2.0 petrol and also 1.8 and 2.1 diesel engines, use timing chains that are more or less reliable. But there are issues with the tensioners, so the chain system will require certain attention at about 150,000 kilometers exactly due to tensioners.
