Maestro Claudio Abbado was one of the most recognised and influential musicians of the late 20th century and early 21st century. He was appointed successor of Herbert von Karajan at the Berliner Philharmoniker Orchestra in 1989. Despite some initial frictions due to Abbado's distinctive style, through his passion, kindness, humbleness, and mastery of the art of conducting, his journey, and that of the Berliners, remained at the pinnacle of excellence.
