Following on from the Box Hill comparison, I decided to compare and contrast a very different and more challenging climb on both Zwift and in real life - Leith Hill. In the name of science it’s time to contrast an ascent of the Leith Hill GF Segment on Strava with the same on Zwift.
Box Hill in real life is a civilised climb with smooth tarmac and even gradient, and the Zwift replica is very accurate. In contrast, Leith Hill is longer, and steeper and much more demanding of the cyclist - with steep ramps preventing the even deployment of power. So I was interested to see if the Zwift replica represents a good simulation of the real thing !
All the variables were controlled, in terms of my weight, bike, wheels, trainer difficulty 100% and also the TSS in the build up to both the Zwift climb and the one outdoors. And for this comparison we 'amp' up the integrity of the bro-science by also comparing Paul Hamblett’s best effort on both Zwift and the real thing!
