Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reacted to the resignation of former Assam Congress chief Bhupen Borah, describing it as a symbolic blow to the Congress party. Speaking to the media in Guwahati, Sarma highlighted Borah as the last prominent Hindu leader in the Assam Congress who had not held positions like MLA or minister, emphasising that his exit underscores how individuals from ordinary families struggle to advance within the party. He accused the Congress of engaging in appeasement politics and welcomed Borah's decision, though noting that Borah had not yet approached the BJP for membership. Sarma revealed plans to visit Borah's house the following evening and mentioned that three years prior, the BJP had been prepared to offer him a secure seat.

Sarma further criticised the deteriorating state of the Congress in Assam, pointing out that candidate selection observers have been assigned to an MLA from a minority community, and many district offices begin meetings with prayers from a specific community, indicating a rapid shift in the party's dynamics. He linked recent grassroots defections of Hindu leaders to the BJP to controversies such as Gaurav Gogoi's alleged Pakistan connections and predicted that 4-5 Congress MLAs would join the BJP in the next 10-15 days, though he stated that the party is not actively encouraging this amid an upcoming Rajya Sabha election.
