A Righteous Man in a Corrupt World | Genesis 6:9–22 | Episode 7
🎧 You can listen or read along below.
📖 This devotional follows a story-first, Scripture-faithful, pastoral journey through the Bible.
When the world is loud with corruption, God looks for one life that still listens.
This is the account of Noah.
Noah was a righteous man.
Blameless in his generation.
Noah walked with God.
Around him, the earth was corrupt.
Violence filled the land.
God saw it clearly.
The earth was ruined by human ways.
So God spoke.
He told Noah that the end of all flesh had come.
Not suddenly.
Not impulsively.
But because corruption had reached its fullness.
God then gave Noah instructions.
Detailed words.
Clear direction.
A way of preservation in the middle of destruction.
God spoke at length.
About what was coming.
About what must be done.
About life that would be saved.
The world around Noah did not change.
The violence did not stop.
The skies did not darken yet.
But Noah listened.
And Scripture ends the story with one quiet sentence.
“Noah did this;
he did all that God commanded him.”
No explanation is recorded.
No argument is mentioned.
Only obedience.
What can we learn from this story?
First: Righteousness is measured by how one walks, not by how many agree.
Noah stood alone, yet he stood with God.
When obedience isolates you, whose approval matters most to you?
Second: God speaks clearly before He acts decisively.
Judgment is never without warning.
Are you listening carefully when God speaks, even if nothing changes immediately?
Third: Obedience often begins long before results are visible.
Faith acts on God’s word, not on circumstances.
Are you willing to obey God when faithfulness feels slow and unseen?
Righteous God,
teach us to walk with You in our generation.
Help us hear Your voice clearly in a corrupted world.
Give us hearts that obey, even when obedience is lonely.
Strengthen us to trust Your word before we see the outcome.
Keep us faithful before You.
Amen.
Tomorrow, obedience will move from words to action,
as Noah enters the ark and the rain begins to fall.
