🛬 ABOUT THE POLDERBAAN (Runway 18R/36L)
The Polderbaan is one of aviation's most well-known runways — and for good reason.

Built between 2001 and 2003 on reclaimed polder land to the west of the main
terminal complex, it literally sits on land that was once underwater. It is
Schiphol's longest runway at 3,800 metres, located 5 km from the terminal —
meaning a taxi time of 15 minutes or more after landing (yes, that long taxi
you always wonder about is because of this runway).

It's also Schiphol's busiest and most noise-friendly strip: around 39% of all
landings at Schiphol use the Polderbaan, precisely because its remote location
minimises noise disturbance to local communities. It even has its own dedicated
air traffic control tower, and a dedicated planespotting area accessible by bike
or car on the western side.
