Following a much needed morning off - including a fine cooked brunch by Chef Connor - normal service resumed in the afternoon. Our numbers swelled again, with the arrival of Becca, Rachel, and The Goodest Boy, Kinsey, here for a mini weekend break. If break was the right word of course... although after Day 3, maybe it was! :-)

Up first was our final four of the week, the cute little ring at St Mary Hill. This took "rural" to a new level, but the scenery was absolutely stunning. The bells, a complete ring by William Evans of Chepstow, were cast in 1746 and rehung in a new frame for five in 1997 - sadly, that final pit remains unfilled. They handle well and sound very sweet. Euan did tolerate Double Bob, which was most noble of him, and this is heard here alongside Plain Bob, Bristol Minimus and the lower.

Next was Llanblethian, where Rachel treated us to cake - she can come again! These are a nice, easy-going little six, rehung by Eayre and Smith in 1995 - a busy year in Wales for them! An interesting mix of founders, they blend together well and sounded pleasant, especially outside, where I recorded some call-changes. The interior footage is Norwich, one of our special methods during the week.

Arriving early in Cowbridge, we snuck a cheeky pint in before ringing here. On paper, that maybe wasn't the finest idea, but, once up the tower, Becca soon had us back in order, with smartly-placed bands and well-planned touches, putting everyone through their paces from call-changes to Spliced Surprise Major, the additional bodies meaning we could push the boat out for the first time. Cowbridge church is a curious building, with its distinctive white tower and castle-like parapets. The bells, a complete 1722 Evan II & William Evans of Chepstow octave, are celebrating their 200th birthday this year, and really are a hidden gem, handling well and sounding gorgeous, having been rehung and tuned by Taylors in 1935.

The evening consisted of a curry back at base, with Jose and Molly showing off their culinary skills, and a convivial evening sat round the campsite, with all credit going to Scout of the Week Charlotte for building and maintaining this. For better or for worse, the campfire songs never quite got off the ground.... a rendition can be arranged on request, but I would recommend earplugs!

Next time.... was one half-day enough? Have we exhausted all the local towers yet? And, after one day free from any breakages, could we extend the streak to two clean days? Find out soon!...
