Supersonic vs Hypersonic: How are they different?

America's Dark Eagle is hypersonic: a glider thrown by a rocket, travelling at Mach 5 or more.

The Congressional Research Service says the real difference is not speed. It is that the glider steers on the air, so defenders may get only one intercept attempt. Speed you can steer.
