Prime MInister Narendra Modi inaugurated the much-awaited Sohna to Dausa stretch of the under-construction Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (DME) on February 12, 2023. It is estimated that this stretch will cut down travel time from Sohna to Dausa from five hours to about 2.5 to 3.5 hours.
Speaking to Mobility Outlook, Mudit Garg, Project Director, NHAI, PIU-Sohna, explained everything that makes this DME special. Currently operational with eight lanes, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has left room for making it a 12-lane expressway, as traffic increases over time.
Similarly, the expressway has also left land parcels for setting up alternate fuel pumps for Hydrogen and LNG in the future. Also, the work for setting up electric vehicle chargers has already been started at these points.
Garg explained that special emphasis has been given to making the expressway safer. These include but are not limited to advanced traffic management systems, helipads for air ambulances, large screens for announcing traffic rules, and trauma centers at regular intervals.
