In Canlaon City, Carlos and Maria Zoyla—a farming couple—now face deep uncertainty after Mount Kanlaon erupted again on April 8. Their home and livelihood in Brgy. Upper Pula, inside the 6-km Permanent Danger Zone, remains off-limits due to ongoing volcanic activity.
Known as the Vegetable Basket of Negros Oriental, the city has suffered over ₱775M in crop losses, threatening food supply and farmers' incomes.
Since the eruption in December, CARE has been helping affected families by providing food, personal protective equipment (PPE), and financial assistance. In March, CARE, in partnership with the Tijori Foundation and the Canlaon City LGU, distributed cash aid to the most affected communities to help them purchase what they needed most. Following the latest eruption, the focus shifted toward immediate relief and long-term recovery.
