While the ATP and WWW watches were issued to British ground forces in WWII, the British Royal Air Force and Royal Navy had their own classification systems. The most famous wristwatches of the Royal Air Force (RAF) are the 6B/159. The Royal Navy (Fleet Air Arm) had the HS8. First ordered in 1940, you had the Weems 6B/159 (Mark VIIA) produced by Omega, Longines, LeCoultre, Movado, Zenith, and Jaeger-LeCoultre. Also in 1940 another batch of simple (no complication) 6B/159 and HS8 (Mark VIIA) were ordered with Omega, Longines, Cyma, Ebel, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and Movado.
In 1956, the WWII watches that were still in service got refurbished by the British Ministry of Defense: The old movements got a new screwed steel case, crown, usually dial, and maybe hands. These cases are a lot beefier than the original wartime 6B/159 issues, which makes them very desirable.
