On May 10th, the Metropolitan Museum of Art unveils « Superfine: Tailoring Black Style », a landmark exhibition that explores centuries of Black sartorial innovation, identity, and excellence.
As part of this historic moment, Balmain is honored to contribute six archival looks, continuing the dialogue between heritage and craftsmanship that defines the house’s ethos. An early glimpse into this celebration of legacy and identity awaits. Rooted in Parisian craftsmanship and shaped by Olivier Rousteing’s creative vision, these pieces honor the intersections of heritage, artistry, and cultural storytelling.
One of the hero pieces is a sculptural belt designed for Naomi Campbell, inspired by the vivid, expressive work of Ghanaian photographer Prince Gyasi. Crafted in the Balmain Atelier, the belt features black lacquered brass hands lifting a golden bouquet, a bold reinterpretation of masculine codes, worn by Naomi to close the Fall-Winter 2024 menswear show. It now joins the Costume Institute’s Spring 2025 exhibition as a striking emblem of power, grace, and distinction.
