Ultimate Mammoth Mountain Travel Guide | Where to Ski, Stay & Explore

Описание: This is Episode 1 of our "how to" series and we’re starting off with mammoth mountain. We’ll talk about how to get there, where to eat, where to stay and where to ski.

Getting to Mammoth → Mammoth can best be reached by either flying into Mammoth Yosemite Airport (MMH), LAX (6 hour drive), or RNO (4 hour drive). We chose LAX as we rented a car through Turo and stayed in Cali the whole trip.

Where to stay → We stayed at the village lodge in Located in the heart of The Village just steps from the best shopping, dining, and entertainment in town. The Village Lodge is Mammoth’s most popular all-access location with multiple hot tubs, a heated pool, and direct gondola access to the slopes in the winter. This is the perfect stay for a mammoth ski trip, just walk to the village gondola and it takes you straight to the slopes.

Where to eat → The wings at Smokeyard BBQ are the best I’ve ever had and is right across from the hot tubs. VULCANIA BY THE VOLTAGGIO BROS is more upscale but is a must visit if you watch cooking shows.

Where to ski at Mammoth → The more advanced terrain in mammoth is where this mountain shines, catch it on a good storm and it's some of the best skiing in the world. We will start right to left in the Hemlocks. The Hemlocks is about a 20 minute hike then you ride atop a ridge and pick your fall line. We rode towards the end of the ridge on a less extreme line that puts you out behind chair 14 on a cat track. Walk back to the outpost and grab a beverage to savor the amazing ride you just had. Next a very underrated area at the top of chair 12, a short hike up to the white bark bowl allowed us access to some fresh mid day turns. Moving to the middle of the trail map: if you happen to catch a storm here I’d head straight to chair 23 if open. Fresh tracks in cornice bowl are amazing if you get them and it's a very lappable area. Moving to the left side of the trail map, you have the dragons back area. Take the upper panorama gondola and ride along the ridge until you find your ideal drop in spot. You pass by Daves run which usually gets tracked out from the gondola riders. Intermediate and beginner terrain is vast at mammoth and can be found on the lower areas of the mountain.
