The question asked in this discourse was - What is the significance of doing Aarti every day, and why do we show Diya to God while doing Aarti?

Om swami says, Aartikaram which is showing light(Diya) to god, is an integral part of Sanātana dharma. Doing Aarti is a way of praying or worshipping. There was a time when the only stuti was done. However, people who knew Sanskrit could only do those Stuti's. So that those who didn't know Sanskrit could also sing glories to God, Aarti was created. In India, all the states have
Aarti in their own regional language. It's something that everyone could sing together.

There is another practical reason behind doing Aarti. In most places, the Aarti plate is circulated during Aarti for donations. Another reason to circulate the Aarti plate is that the devotees usually forget the temple's root value. That a person should not go empty-handed
to a place of worship or Guru's or God's place. A householder should not go empty-handed to a Guru's or God's place. If a householder starts going empty-handed to a shrine or place of worship, it will mark the end of the religion. In today's world, the religions that are growing have the backing of incomparable wealth. So, it becomes a memorial or sign of remembrance. Devotees will keep something in the plate when it's circulated while Aarti is being performed people would put what they could afford.
