Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi has accused Israel of being behind "terrorist cells" that have enflamed anti-government protests in recent days.
Speaking on Fox News, Araghchi said "they wanted to increase the number of deaths".
"Why? Because President Trump has said that if there are killings, he would intervene, and they wanted to drag him into this conflict."
Trump said he had been told killings in Iran's crackdown on protests were easing and that he believed there was no current plan for large-scale executions, adopting a wait-and-see posture after earlier threatening intervention.
