I’m 44 years old, living alone in Shenzhen.
Every year before Chinese New Year, hundreds of millions of people travel back to their hometowns. It’s known as “Spring Festival Travel Rush” — the largest annual human migration on Earth.
This time, I chose to drive 1,010 kilometers (about 600 miles) back to my rural hometown.
In this video, I take you along the daytime part of the journey:
– Traffic jams
– Service areas
– Highway rest stops
– Lunch on the road
– Thoughts about why I chose to drive instead of taking the train
It took much longer than expected.
But going home for the New Year… always feels worth it.
Part 2 continues with the night drive and arriving home at 5:12 AM.
