Lupus Month Series | Lupus and Reproductive Health | Dr. Chetana V (Obstetrician-Gynaecologist)
Reproductive health is one of the most searched and most anxious topics in the lupus community, and for good reason. Lupus affects women nine out of ten times, most often between the ages of 14 and 44, which is exactly when many of us are thinking about relationships, family planning, and our futures. In this webinar, we have an open and honest conversation about what lupus means for your reproductive health, your pregnancy journey, and your life as a woman living with this disease.
We are joined by two incredible guests. Dr. Chetana, Senior Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Aster CMI, with expertise in perinatology, high-risk pregnancy, reproductive medicine, and IVF. And Anjali Shivananda, a lupus patient and new mother, who shares her deeply personal journey through pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care.
This session is part of our month-long webinar series hosted by Lupus Trust India Karnataka Chapter, where we bring together specialists from different fields who care for lupus patients. Our this year's campaign theme is Lupus Treatments, New Drugs, and Innovations – Are We Getting Closer to a Cure?
What we cover in this session:
✅ How lupus affects hormonal balance, menstrual cycles, and overall reproductive health in women
✅ The impact of lupus medications on reproductive organs, including a detailed discussion on cyclophosphamide and egg freezing before treatment
✅ Birth control options that are safe for lupus patients and best practices for family planning
✅ How to handle an unplanned pregnancy safely when living with lupus

✅ Safe sex practices for sexually active lupus patients and their partners
✅ Preventive gynaecological care including vaccines, diet, and lifestyle habits for long-term reproductive health
✅ What lupus patients need to do before planning a pregnancy, including medication adjustments, bloodwork, and physical preparation

✅ What neonatal lupus is, how it can affect the baby, and whether it can be prevented
✅ Postpartum care for lupus patients, keeping disease activity in check after delivery, and the support system needed during recovery
✅ Anjali's personal story of preparing for pregnancy, navigating the unexpected, and life in the months after her baby arrived
