The raccoons are back once again climbing up the nest tree to see if there is any food for them to eat. One big adult raccoon can be seen on the left climbing up - almost makes it up and Mom will vocalize a warning and it climbs back down the tree trunk. A couple of hours later, now we have two raccoons climbing up the tree. Mom can not see the raccoons but she can hear them and she knows they are close by. She will yell a warning and send them both scampering back down the tree.
Raccoons are predators that have associated this nest as a food source.They are looking for eggs and any remains of prey left on the nest. As long as Mom is on the eggs they are safe, however, the raccoons can kill eaglets if they are left unguarded at night. Mom and Dad DNR will be carefully guarding the nest with their young.
