Sophie is featured receiving her new soft contact lenses and super-modular lenses in stylish glasses. These options correct for her lack of a natural intraocular lens in each eye (aphakia).
Sophie was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) at age three and at the time this video is produced she is a college freshman. Because of chronic inflammation inside the eyes (uveitis) she developed cataracts in her natural lenses, severe glaucoma, and band keratopathy...which is uncomfortable and vision-threatening calcium build-up on the corneas.
