KORG EMX-1 -- FIXING YOUR WOBBLY POTS

Описание: I spent several hours pulling this machine apart just to see how the control pots were housed on the main board, and why they get loose after time. So this video is to help you NOT TO WASTE SO MUCH TIME. I'm just showing you the quick and easy way to solve this problem OR to PREVENT IT HAPPENING in the first place. I would not recommend anyone to pull this machine apart simply because there is one very difficult area, mainly getting the second metal surface(visible in video) away from the main core of the machine(plastic) where all the controls and motherboard are housed. Part of that silver metal surface is tucked underneath the screen and you risk damaging the screen. But, Removing the blue top plate is very easy. First remove the silver screws with an ALAN key. The knobs are usually pretty tight so a small screw driver can be inserted underneath, then twisted, to help prize them off while your fingers are pulling upward. So the real issue = THE WOBBLY POTS. The main problem is that they are not supported very well in the first place. PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE is what they call it. There is nothing to stop them from going wobbly so if they are handled roughly then that's what you end up with, loose and sloppy controls. It is exactly the same problem with the Roland MC505 (and the other Roland MCs) . So hopefully, if you are reading this, you may appreciate this rather simple way to solve this problem on the KORG EMX. The little plastic strips I'm using are approximately .5 or .6mm thick, 5mm wide, and around 25mm long. Any plastic will do the job but I have found that a clear soda drink bottle is best. It is obviously better if you can insert the strips on all four sides, but 3 sides will do. The strips need to go down into the pot about 10- 12mm. Bending the strip first at right angle also helps. The metal base of the pots as you will see is square so that is why this method can work. Apparently on the original Electribes they had a plastic sleeve around the pots preventing them from going wobbly. So why did Korg not do so on this machine?
