San Diego International Airport is accessible by the only San Diego MTS route 992, which operates as an airport shuttle between Downtown San Diego and the airport, running approximately every 15 minutes. There is also another shuttle bus (not operated by SDMTS) that goes to Old Town Transit Center from the airport, but service quality is terrible, so most tourists use 992.
San Diego MTS purposely designated 7 Gillig Low Floor buses to be serving the 992, featuring luggage racks. These buses use Cummins Westport L9N 250 hp engines and ZF 6AP1400B transmissions, and they replaced ElDorado National E-Z Rider II MAX CNGs as those previously operated on the 992.
