Listen… this ain’t just a plate, it’s a prayer you can chew.
Every New Year, we eat black-eyed peas, collard greens, and cornbread for a reason—and it didn’t come from nowhere. This tradition runs deep in Southern roots, African ancestry, and straight-up survival.
Black-eyed peas represent coins. That’s money multiplying, not struggling.
Collard greens represent paper money. Folded, stacked, and growing.
Cornbread represents gold. Wealth, stability, and value that lasts.
This tradition goes back to African foodways and Civil War times, when Black folks survived on what others overlooked—and turned it into abundance. What was meant for scraps became symbols of prosperity.
So when I fix this plate, I’m not just eating.
I’m declaring overflow, provision, and better than last year energy.
Now tell me—did you eat your money on New Year’s, or you still playing with luck? 👀
