First round of 2001 World Rally Championship. Tommi Mäkinen would start his hunt for fifth consecutive title with a convincing victory. Colin McRae was the only one who could have challenged Tommi, but he had problems with his throttle and retired on the last day. Toni Gardemeister drove superbly and finished 5th on privateer Peugeot 206. All works Peugeots failed to finish on this event. Grönholm had technical issues, Auriol and Panizzi crashed out.
