Millet is grown and consumed around the world and is also growing in popularity with health conscious individuals. Not only is it packed with many different vitamins and minerals, but it can promote our overall health, prevent certain types of disease and increase our energy levels naturally. Now, lets discuss some of the unique and amazing health benefits of consuming millet regularly.

1. First, millet is very nutrient dense. It contains good levels of many types of vitamins, minerals and other types of nutrients that are important for our overall health. Specifically, millet is high in manganese, magnesium, niacin, phosphorus, thiamin, vitamin B6 and copper. It is also a good source of dietary fibre, contains some protein and is low in fat content.

2. Millet can also help to promote digestion and relieve many different digestive ailments. Due to its high fibre content, millet can help to move food through the gastrointestinal system more efficiently while also adding bulk. This also allows millet to eliminate unwanted symptoms associated with digestion, such as bloating, cramping constipation and excess gas. Also, it can help to increase nutrient uptake from the healthy foods we eat and eliminate wastes from the body.

3. Surprising to some, but millet is also packed with a number of unique and potent antioxidants that can help to detoxify the body and eliminate inflammation and free radicals. It can also help to remove toxins from the body. This is because millet contains powerful antioxidant compounds such as quercetin, ellagic acid and catechins. These antioxidants can also help to prevent disease and boost our immune system.

4. It can also help to boost he overall health of our heart and prevent cardiovascular disease. In fact, millet is recognized as a very heart healthy grain choice. This is because it contains high levels of magnesium, which can help to reduce blood pressure and atherosclerosis and also reduce the risk of heart disease. Millet is also a great source of potassium, which works as a vasodilator. As well, due to the great levels of fibre found in millet, it can help to control cholesterol while the numerous antioxidants promote the elimination of free radicals that can compromise our cardiovascular system.

5. Lastly, millet can have benefits for those individuals who are suffering from diabetes or those who are at risk of developing the disease. The high levels of magnesium found in millet can help to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. As well, magnesium has been shown to promote the efficiency of glucose and insulin receptors in the body. This can further help to prevent diabetes.
