First Time In VIETNAM | From The Rush Of HANOI To The Slow Life In PU LUONG

A country of contrasts, where loud, vibrant cities sit within touching distance of calm oceans and towering limestone hills, this is definitely one of the most exciting destinations in South East Asia. The easternmost country on the Indochina Peninsula, with almost 4000 kms of coastline, miles of dense forests and a hill country rich in both natural beauty and culture, Vietnam has something for most travelers.
But this Vietnam trip is going to be a lot different from my previous ones. While the first half of the trip will be a bit touristy, quirky and a lot of fun with my best co-travellers, the latter half will be just me exploring the hinterlands in a bit more laidback and experiential way.

With Vietjet offering direct flight and low fares, travelling to Vienam has never been more convenient and affordable for Indians. While the flight experience was not really the best, but in just 4 hrs we were in the capital city of Hanoi.

Hanoi is not just the capital but also the cultural center of Vietnam. And my recommendation would be to stay in the Old Quarters for the most authentic experience. This is one of the city’s oldest areas, dating back 2000 years and here you’ll see a perfect representation of the local life in Hanoi.

Hanoi is a great base for exploring the rest of North Vietnam, because its centrally located and well connected. Even though we have hardly scratched the surface of the capital city, but I intend to do that on our way back. So the plan for the next couple of days is to leave the rush of the city life behind and soak in the slow-paced life of Vietnamese highland villages.

Roughly 160kms from Hanoi lies the rainforest covered mountains and the gorgeous green valleys of Pu Luong. . Although only a five hours drive from Hanoi, this Nature Reserve would live up to most people’s imagination of an idyllic Vietnamese landscape. With its rippling rice terraces, soaring limestone peaks, and ethnic Thai minority villages, Pu Luong is one of the most spectacular areas of North Vietnam
