In a dramatic escalation of political tension, security operatives linked to the Museveni regime yesterday raided the home of Najja Sherif, an assistant to opposition leader Bobi Wine. When the officers failed to find Sherif at the residence, they reportedly seized his wife after she told them she had no knowledge of his whereabouts.
In another startling development, nine police officers who had been assigned to Bobi Wine during the campaign period were paraded before the Police Court and summarily dismissed from the Uganda Police Force. Their alleged offense: “neglect of duty.” Authorities claim the officers aided Bobi Wine in escaping from his own home following the election.
These extraordinary actions point to a government in a state of growing panic, casting a wide net and targeting anyone suspected of having ties to the opposition leader after failing to locate him since he went into hiding.
Meanwhile, the political storm continues to intensify. Nansana Municipality MP-elect Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa has issued a stern warning to engineer Stephen Kaweesi, who has been making rounds across several media platforms alleging that Zambaali paid money to secure the NUP party ticket.
As accusations fly and tensions mount, the unfolding events highlight the increasingly volatile political atmosphere surrounding Bobi Wine and his allies.
