In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, Franco-Flemish musicians had a tremendous influence over the development of musical language as they migrated across Europe, notably to Italy. In turn, the same phenomenon was replicated in the late-sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, this time with Italian musicians. As major courts of Europe vied to attract the best musicians, often poaching them from each others, many Italian musicians found lucrative employment north of the Alps, emigrating to German-speaking lands and beyond. One court that particularly prized its Italian musicians at the turn of the seventeenth century was that of Sigismund III Vasa of Poland, hiring many notable Italian composers such as Giovanni Valentini, Tarquinio Merula and Luca Marenzio alongside Polish musicians. One of their best-known Polish contemporaries is undoubtedly Adam Jarzȩbski, whose Concerti e canzoni of 1627 is the first important collection of Polish instrumental music, and displays the Italian influences of his colleagues while maintaining a distinct personal style.

Aux XVe et XVIe siècles, les musiciens franco-flamands une influence considérable sur le développement du langage musical lors de leurs migrations à travers l’Europe, notamment en Italie. Le même phénomène se reproduit à la fin du XVIe et au XVIIe siècle, cette fois avec les musiciens italiens. Alors que les principales cours d’Europe rivalisent pour attirer les meilleurs musiciens, de nombreux italiens trouvent un emploi lucratif au nord des Alpes, émigrant vers les pays germanophones et au-delà. Une cour qui prise particulièremen ses musiciens italiens au tournant du XVIIe siècle est celle de Sigismond III Vasa de Pologne, engageant de nombreux compositeurs italiens de renom tels que Giovanni Valentini, Tarquinio Merula et Luca Marenzio aux côtés de musiciens polonais. L’un de leurs contemporains polonais les plus connus est sans aucun doute Adam Jarzȩbski, dont les Concerti e canzoni de 1627 constituent la première collection importante de musique instrumentale polonaise, et témoignent des influences italiennes de ses collègues tout en conservant un style personnel distinct.
