(26 Sep 1977) Riot police armed with truncheons clashed with demonstrators in Manila. The anti-government demonstrators were trying to march on the presidential palace on the event of the fifth anniversary of the proclamation of martial law in the Philippines. This led to several arrests and injuries among the demonstrators who were protesting against the government of President Ferdinand Marcos, who signed his martial law declaration and two days later implemented it.
