Jeanette was last seen leaving the Lion’s Den Bar with an unknown man. The next morning, her body was discovered in the back seat of her car, evidence pointing to strangulation and sexual assault. Despite initial efforts, the case went cold for decades. In 2024, a re-examination of a latent fingerprint on a pack of Eve cigarettes found at the scene led investigators to Willie Eugene Sims, a former Army private stationed at Fort Ord during the time of the murder. DNA evidence further linked Sims to the crime, resulting in his arrest in Ohio in May 2025. He now faces extradition to California and, if convicted, could be sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
