Palestinian Folk group, travelled from their homes in Nablus, Palestine, to perform their amazing traditional music and dance in Kraków.
They played hauntingly beautiful musical, as harrowing images were projected, to the energy and talent of the performers, to the amazing, joyful, exuberant, and moving group dance of ‘Joy and Unity’, this was an unforgettable evening, which touched me deeply.
These are the Palestinian people, this is Palestinian culture, this is what culture, hope and pride look like.
Performers
Huwiya Ensemble
Haweya Group, was established in 2007 alongside the Arts and Heritage Centre.
It encompasses the Centre’s diverse artistic groups: a music and singing ensemble, a theatre troupe, a contemporary dance (breakdance) team, and a traditional Dabke troupe.
The group aims to preserve and develop Palestinian cultural heritage, presenting it in contemporary ways and fostering cultural exchange through international collaborations and festival participation, with over 40 international appearances for the Dabke troupe alone.

Event Programme
Opening Speech – Hatem Hafi, director of the ensemble, introduces the group and shares insights about Palestinian culture and today’s reality.
Film & First Performance – A short documentary with Polish subtitles sets the scene, followed by two captivating dance pieces:
• Shalat – traditions of a Palestinian wedding
• Tahat al-Kheil – the groom’s bachelor evening
Second Performance – A live concert with folk singer Ibrahim Ashour accompanied by musicians on oud, organ, and yarghul.
• Repertoire: beloved Palestinian folk and revolutionary songs (‘Ala al-Kufiyya, Dammi Falastini, Tayer al-Tayer, and more).
Third Performance – Two dazzling folk dances:
• A medley of classics by the legendary Al-Ashiqeen ensemble
• Palestinian Dal’ona – a joyful tradition celebrating young women.
Finale – A vibrant concert blending music, song, and dance, featuring traditional pieces like Dihiya, Karadah, and Halali ya Mali.
The evening ended with an invitation for everyone to join the artists on stage for a shared dance of joy and unity!
This was a donation based event to raise funds for "Palestine days in Krakow"
Huwiya, are a Palestinian folk group that embodies the spirit of tradition in its dance.
The group was founded in 2009 in the Askar refugee camp. It is led by artists primarily from Nablus, a city located in the northern West Bank in Palestine.
The group has performed together at over 13 international festivals, where audiences have had the opportunity to experience Palestinian identity through moving stories, vibrant dances, and emotive music.
The group also highlights the tragic situation of the Palestinian people, in which so many have fallen victim to genocide and attempted displacement, while simultaneously giving voice to the strength of the Palestinian people.
