A Palestinian teacher working for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in Gaza has alleged that she received death threats after opposing what she described as lessons promoting hatred against Jewish people and support for violence. In an interview with the New York Post, the 40-year-old geography teacher said she had worked for UNRWA for approximately 15 years. According to her account, a school administrator threatened to cut her tongue after a heated disagreement with another teacher over the alleged promotion of extremist ideas among students. She said fear of retaliation against her family prevented her from filing a complaint at the time.

The teacher also alleged that some colleagues portrayed Hamas as a response to historical injustice and encouraged students to continue the struggle. She warned that education promoting hatred could contribute to future violence and called for changes to school curricula and independent monitoring of teachers.

UNRWA has faced longstanding criticism over educational materials used in its schools. A January 2026 US Government Accountability Office report reportedly identified content in Palestinian Authority textbooks that conflicted with UN principles of neutrality and nonviolence. UNRWA has maintained that it does not tolerate incitement or support for terrorism and has procedures intended to uphold neutrality.

The allegations remain the teacher's account and should be distinguished from independently verified findings. Transparent investigations, balanced education and protection for students and teachers are essential to preventing hatred and building a more peaceful future.
