I Am Art is a composition by Marlou Vriens, written especially for Sonic Vox.
The work functions as a Requiem for the Arts — a protest piece reflecting on the way art is treated in our society, in education, and in public life. Marlou deliberately chose the form of a requiem as a symbolic funeral mass for the diminishing value of the arts.
From this requiem emerges a protest song with a powerful message: we are all creative beings. Creation is fundamental to who we are — without it, we lose something essential.
The piece culminates in a Dies Irae, portraying a figurative Day of Judgment: a vision of what we risk if art disappears from our lives altogether.
Sonic Vox is a Dutch contemporary choir dedicated to genre-blurring performances that combine vocal music with new artistic perspectives.
