How I Select the Best San Pedro Cactus Seedlings

Описание: How I select Seedlings of San Pedro Cactus. The basic plan is to grow cactus seedlings out in the most uniform condtions I can (still working on it) so that when I make initial selections, I am more likely to be picking them for genetic differences vs environmental conditions. I want them to express thier genetic potential. Once they are of a certain size, usually over 1 inch, they start to show more individual traits. I make a first selection of what look like the best cactus and grow those out in 4 inch pots for a year. Then I make a second selection and will pot those for a year in one gallon pots. Select again the following year and put into two or three gallon pots. Each year, just culling more and leaving the very best. I also grow them in uniform conditons, same pots, same soil mix and I water and fertilize the same. All to continue to aim for identical environmental conditions so that confounding enviromental factors interfere less with growth, insuring that I am mostly comparing genetics. Once they are large enough and really showing their colors, they can be further comapred for any other traits one might want to look for. I think this plan is solid, it's not perfect, but perfect is a myth. barring any kind of lab or genetic testing, It works well enough. I no doubt miss a lot of amazing stuff, but someone else will get to grow those out and that's great too!
