Get the most out of your utility room! P. Allen Smith reveals the finished mudroom, aka utility room. Although small in size, this room is big on function and charm. As the mudroom serves multiple functions -- laundry room, rear entryway, and storage area -- it was important to make good use of every inch of the space. Wall-length shelves with canvas baskets, a built-in closet, more storage under the stairwell, and a shabby-chic shelving system with vintage industrial bins all provide ample space to store household goods. To create a sense of openness and warmth, the French door entryway and taupe walls make the room feel light and inviting, while the dark brown wood floors add to the room's rustic charm.
