The No. 12 Terps won a 62-55 game over USC on Thursday night for their fifth conference win of the season. The contest featured 14 lead changes, but 20 free throws in the second half helped the pendulum swing Maryland's way as the Terps started their West Coast road trip with a gritty victory.
Maryland's (17-2, 5-2 Big Ten) defense kept the Trojans at bay for the majority of the contest. The Terps held USC (10-7, 2-4 Big Ten) to 16% from three-point range (on 32 attempts) and 28% from the floor overall. USC's Jazzy Davidson was held scoreless after the first quarter. The Terps limited the Trojans to eight points in the second quarter, marking the 19th time Maryland's kept an opponent under 10 points in a quarter this season.
Addi Mack led Maryland with 12 points while Yarden Garzon and Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu each had 10. Kyndal Walker and the Terps had a good night from the charity stripe as they took advantage of USC fouls and miscues. Walker shot 9-of-10 from the line while Maryland went 22-of-26 overall.
Ozzy-Momodu led the charge on the boards with nine rebounds while Oluchi Okananwa and Saylor Poffenbarger grabbed seven and six, respectively. Okananwa surpassed 500-career rebounds in the win. Maryland stays out west to take on No. 3 UCLA on Sunday afternoon.
