Emergency descent and landing

Описание: It's been a year since I got my private pilot's license. The last one year was all about flying my friends around and working on my Instrument rating. I felt the need to revisit all my lessons from my Private Pilot training which I was not able to practice in the last one year. My CFI and I went up on Monday to practice steep turns, slow flight, stalls, emergency descent and landing, chandelle, and lazy eight. Here is a clip from the emergency descent and landing. I am glad we did this flight. It was a huge confidence booster and also helped me stay proficient!

Emergency descent is a maneuver where I have to get down rapidly at the nearest airport due to some technical issue with the airplane like an inflight fire, bad engine etc. The idea is to lose altitude as quickly as possible. My CFI made it more interesting. He pulled the throttle back to idle at 4500 feet and asked me to land at Bourland airfield with absolutely no engine power making it a simulated engine failure situation. I had a lot of fun doing it and hear my CFI say, "You had the biggest smile on your face when you got the aircraft lined up with the runway". The entire 3 minutes in the video has the engine just at idle (not producing any power) and it was all about managing the energy the plane already has and using the airflow to get the bird back down safely! Sorry about the audio, the cable had a disconnect and our conversations did not get recorded.
