Dr. Dunbar, expert dog trainer and veterinarian came to Nanaimo, BC to present a 3 day seminar. This is a short clip from his evening Question and Answer session. I added subtitles as some of the talking is difficult to hear. In some cases I have had to guess as to what he is saying due to the background noise. Please let me know if I have made an error in transcribing it. Note the time and what you think he says.
In this clip, he explains the use of food to classically counter condition a dog's fear of strangers.
It was wonderful meeting him. He explains dog training in a way that is easy for everyone to understand. He is funny, uses stories and analogies, understands dogs well and is empathetic to their needs. Of course, he is also very experienced and was among the first to start puppy classes back in the 1980's. They can be started very young if you use food and no punishment.
