Get ready for a bottle project that will definitely be a learning experience for all of us together! This tutorial shows you how to transform a thrifted bottle from Goodwill into an absolutely gorgeous Easter or spring decoration that you could keep out year round.
Start by cleaning your bottle with isopropyl alcohol to make sure it's completely clean. Mark out where your frame will go - just use a Sharpie to make a tiny dot in the center so you'll know where to place it later.
For painting the bottle, those round sponges work the best because you can just pounce the paint on. You're going to use Waverly chalk paint in Plaster (or any white chalk paint you have). You could use bonding boss if you wanted to, but this is simpler and something everyone would probably have.
Here's where it gets exciting - the crackle! Use DecoArt crackle medium. Apply it fairly thick, maybe a quarter inch or more, especially in areas you want to crackle. Let it sit and air dry if you can - the longer you let it sit, the more crackle you'll get. Don't baby it too much! If you can just leave it sit and let it air dry, that's perfect.
Once it's dry, use dark wax (Bare Wax is super inexpensive and works great, but any dark wax will do). Apply it with a baby wipe because they just work better! Push it into all the crackle lines with a pouncing brush to really get in there - that's where you're going to get the gorgeous aged porcelain look. Around the frame area, create just that dark shadow effect, then barely wipe it back off so you have this beautiful frame around the image.
For embellishments, you can get pre-made Form Flex castings from vintageretailtherapy.com - this gorgeous little frame and adorable bunnies are from there. Code SISTERHOOD gets you a discount! If you don't have the castings, you could use Tim Holtz frames (they're bendable so they work perfect) or even grab something from your ornament box!
Seal everything with Pentart solvent varnish to make it super shiny and protect all your work.
This is something you could keep out year round - it's absolutely darling sitting on your coffee table or shelf!
