France facing 'David vs Goliath' battle with wildfires and heatwave

Описание: The French fire service has called it a ‘David vs Goliath’ battle - as 2,000 first responders fight to save industrial areas on the outskirts of Bordeaux.

Across France and Spain, more than 300,000 people have been forced to leave their homes.

And it might still get worse.

No rain is forecast until Friday - and that’s not expected to be heavy.
Meanwhile, another heatwave is on the way with temperatures set to rise to more than 40C in the affected regions.

Wildfires are becoming more frequent, more intense and lasting longer fuelled by climate change.

This year, Western Europe experienced the hottest June since records began - with rising temperatures straining ecosystems and infrastructure across the continent.

In this episode of the breakdown, we speak with Channel 4 News Correspondent Amelia Jenne, who is in France, and explore the damage being caused, and whether Europe can cope with wildfires becoming more intense with climate change driving ever more extreme temperatures.
