The S9 v. the AirSense 10
ResMed is one of the market leaders of the CPAP industry, and the company’s CPAP machines are a big reason why. For years, they’ve produced innovative products, and between their S9 series and new AirSense brand, they have two of the top lines on the market. The two boast similar features – including compatibility with heated tubes, EPR, and advanced detection software – but there are a few subtle differences in the base machines.
Let’s start with the S9. There are essentially three different machines in the series: the S9 AutoSet, the S9 Elite, and the S9 Escape. There is an AutoSet for her as well, but the machine performs the same as the regular AutoSet; the only difference between the machines is aesthetic, as the for her is painted pink. As the name implies, the AutoSet is the automatic machine in the line, while the Escape and the Elite require manual adjustment.
Each machine in the series features EPR and advanced event detection features that help identify apneas as soon as you have them: these features will trigger the machines to adjust pressure to subdue the apnea and get you back to a normal respiratory cycle. The Elite boasts a slightly different package than the Escape, but otherwise, the machines function similarly.
The AirSense line offers several new features that help distinguish the new series from older machines. First, ResMed revamped the AirSense for Her. They customized the device to include a distinct algorithm that specifically targets apneas as women experience them: the algorithm will respond to apneas sooner than other machines, raising pressure immediately when the machine detects an unnatural respiratory cycle.
Each AirSense machine also includes an overhauled data management system. With AirView data management, you’ll be able to upload all of your sleep apnea statistics and information onto the cloud directly from your machine. This means that you can send statistics and settings to your physician or CPAP technician and receive help and advice immediately. It doesn’t require any extra effort on your part: simply turn on AirView, and your information will automatically be shared! If you don’t want to share your data for any reason, simply put your device in airplane mode, and no information will be stored.
Each AirSense is also compatible with a new heated breathing tube: the ClimateLineAir. This tube helps you get the most out of your humidifier: by ferrying warm air to your mouth, you’ll be able to avoid negative symptoms like rainout and nasal congestion.
