Meanwhile, over on Channel 4, there was their traditional Alternative Christmas Message, a tradition that started by the late raconteur Quintin Crisp in 1993. This year's message, however, was delivered by none other than Marge Simpson. This was shortly after the free-to-air rights for The Simpsons was passed-over to Channel 4 from the BBC, who has been broadcasting the long-running US animated sitcom for the previous 8 years.

There was a total of five (yes, five) showings of the fictional animated blue beehive-haired mother of 3's Christmas message that day, with the premiére going directly head-to-head with The Queen's speech on BBC1, ITV1 and Sky, but it's the second showing at five past 4 p.m. where this clip was originated, and we'll pick it up from shortly after another Channel 4 tradition - 'The Snowman'.
