Life-saving Surgery! Shanghai doctors removed a 12cm tumor for a foreign cancer patient

Описание: A UK patient, known as 'Anna', suffering from severe colon cancer was recently saved by medical experts from Zhongshan Hospital in Shanghai. Early in the morning on December 16th, she expressed her gratitude to the medical staff before being discharged from the hospital.

In the first half of this year, Anna started feeling pain in the lower abdomen and did not get better after taking medicines by herself. After she was examined in Zhongshan Hospital, she was diagnosed with locally advanced colon cancer. Due to the high risk of surgery, Anna visited many hospitals to seek medical treatment but to no avail. By the end of November, medical experts from Zhongshan Hospital found that a 12-centimeter tumor had severely invaded her small intestine, and without surgery, her life would be in danger.

After Anna was admitted to the hospital, the medical team immediately invited relevant departments such as anesthesia, cardiology and nephrology for consultation, aiming to minimize surgery-related risks. On December 7th, the medical team performed a 3D laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery on Anna to successfully remove the tumor.

Colon cancer is a common malignant tumor. Although its early symptoms are not obvious, it can be detected early through colonoscopy. Zhongshan Hospital plans to pilot community-based accurate public welfare screening of colorectal tumors with DNA detection technology among local residents aged from 40-74 in Xuhui District from the beginning of 2022, so that potential patients can be diagnosed and start receiving treatment as early as possible.
