What Makes A Watercolor 'Good'? Easily Influenced by Hannah MP

Описание: Hey there, Artnerds! I am still on my journey to learn how to paint beautiful landscapes in watercolor, and today may be the day! Today I'm reading and reviewing Watercolor Wanderlust by Hannah MP and taking a look at her collaboration with Artistro! We'll be swatching and color mixing with their limited edition collaboration watercolor palette, testing out their paper, and even taking a little influence from Hannah herself to paint a landscape-inspired bookmark!

The paints in this kit really challenged me to examine my notion of 'good' and quality, vs my own preconceived notions and preferences towards watercolor paints.

What came in the set:
24 watercolor set, claiming unique watercolor palette, in a bamboo box with latches
2 round synthetic brushes
10 pieces of cellulose watercolor paper
Swatch sheet (inside the pack with the paper)
Mixing tray (nests in lid, is removable, plastic)
'instruction sheet' that mentions techniques but does not demonstrate them
QR code promising more tutorials

Swatching:

Very stiff brush
These paints really gum up on this brush
This brush is uncomfortable for me to use

Not seeing any interesting kind of granulation
paint floods the wash
Burnt umber seperated into a dye and thenn something else (it's probably a mix of burnt sienna and what they're calling van dyke brown)
Most neutrals are dry very weak and desaturated, although yellow ochre is ok

Color Mixing

Using Their Paper

Atomic:
Decent and vibrant secondary colors, very easy to mix, inclu mixing surface provies plenty of room.

Optical:
The layering feels a little muddy, but that could be a cellulose issue, not a paint issue

Mud Test:
On this paper, with a lot of water, some of the colors go lovely and misty- possibly perfect for sunsets. We'll have ot see how it dries, I'm already seeing scaling with some of the dry areas.

Definitely some harsh scaling areas, but the colors stay really nice and saturated when dry. This is pretty- I'm going to scan it and use it as a watercolor background
