Before polishing a vehicle's paint, it can be instructive to know how much paint there is in the first place. Because when you polish through the clear coat -- aka "burn" paint -- it can be an incredibly expensive mistake. The panel will often times need to get re painted. Basically, you DON'T want this to happen, which is why a paint gauge can be your friend.
When we talk paint, we really mean clear coat. And that's what you're wanting to measure with a paint thickness gauge. So in this video, Yvan shows you how to use one -- and how to measure in mils vs. microns. Which one do YOU prefer to measure the clear coat with?
