The inconel name applies when it is produced by Special Metals Corporation. The UNS designation is N06600. Alloy 600 is a solid solution alloy with a nominal composition of 74% nickel, 15.5% chromium, and 8.5% Iron. It is not hardenable by heat treatment. Cold work can increase yield and tensile strength. Corrosion resistance is excellent. Inconel 600 also has excellent oxidation resistance at temperatures as high as 2000 deg F.
Alloy 600 does not respond to a magnet over a wide range of temperatures.
