魅力的な温泉が集まる鳴子温泉郷。その中で東鳴子温泉にも沢山の魅力的なお宿があります。今回宿泊したのは旅館大沼。日本秘湯を守る会の会員宿で、ご主人の大沼さんこだわりの現代湯治を提唱する人気のお宿です。

全20室の旅館には7つの内湯と美しい貸切露天風呂を備えます。2023年にリニューアルされた機能的で快適なお部屋にチェックイン、全ての温泉を楽しむべく早速湯浴みの時間が始まります。

明るい日差しの差し込む陽の湯と陰の湯。こじんまりとした浴槽から温泉のパワーを感じる灯りの湯。混浴大浴場の薬師仙人の湯。更にオンドル風呂であるふかし湯と足湯に加え圧巻は貸切露天風呂である母里の湯。山里と大自然をダイレクトに感じる湯は美しいの一言。貸切だからこそ味わえる贅沢な湯浴み時間は極上の温泉体験。

泉質は自家源泉であるナトリウムー炭酸水素塩泉のモール泉・大沼の湯と共同源泉のナトリウム-炭酸水素塩泉・塩化物泉・唐竹の湯の2種類の湯を楽しむことが可能。特に大沼の湯は私の大好きなモール泉。植物由来の豊潤な香りでアロマ効果も同時に味わうことが出来ます。更に美肌成分を多く含む美人の湯。以前は目の湯としても有名だったそうです。

湯食同泉と名付けられた地産地消の美味しい食事も湯治体験を楽しくしてくれます。私が選んだのは一汁八采に仙台牛の会席料理。胃腸に負担をかけない素朴で滋味深い献立と暖かく手の込んだ料理が日々の疲れを癒してくれます。

体に優しい湯に包まれて過ごす湯治体験。今回は1泊でしたがお宿が提唱するのは2泊3日の現代湯治。時間の取れる際には是非2泊してゆっくりと湯治体験を味わいたいものです。

I stayed at Ryokan Onuma in Higashinaruko Onsen, Osaki City, Miyagi Prefecture.

The Naruko Onsen area is home to a collection of fascinating hot springs. Higashinaruko Onsen is home to many charming inns. This time, I stayed at Ryokan Onuma. A member of the Japan Society for Preserving Secret Hot Springs, this popular inn advocates modern hot spring therapy, uniquely tailored by its owner, Mr. Onuma.

The 20-room inn features seven indoor baths and a beautiful private open-air bath. After checking into our functional and comfortable room, renovated in 2023, we immediately began bathing, ready to enjoy all the hot springs.

The bright sunlight streamed into the Yang-no-yu and Yin-no-yu baths. The light-filled baths allowed us to feel the power of the hot springs. The mixed-gender large bath, Yakushi Sennin-no-yu, also featured a steaming bath and foot bath. The highlight was the private open-air bath, Mori-no-yu. The baths, which offer a direct connection to the mountain village and nature, are simply beautiful. The luxurious bathing time, only possible with a private room, is an exquisite hot spring experience.

You can enjoy two types of hot spring water: the privately-sourced sodium bicarbonate moor spring, Onuma no Yu, and the shared sodium bicarbonate chloride spring, Karatake no Yu. Onuma no Yu is my favorite moor spring. Its rich, plant-derived fragrance also provides aromatherapy benefits. It's also rich in skin-beautifying ingredients, making it a beauty bath. Apparently, it was once famous as an eye bath.

The delicious, locally-sourced food, known as Yushoku-dosen, also adds to the enjoyment of your toji experience. I chose the kaiseki ryori (traditional Japanese kaiseki meal) featuring Sendai beef and a simple, hearty menu that's easy on the stomach, along with warm, elaborate dishes that will soothe your daily fatigue.

Spend time immersed in body-friendly hot springs. While this time we stayed for one night, the inn advocates a modern toji experience that lasts for two nights and three days. If you have the time, I recommend staying for two nights to enjoy a relaxing toji experience.
